Duragesic Pain Patches
Duragesic pain patches have been recalled. Janssen Pharmaceutica Products
has recalled five lots of Duragesic, fentanyl transdermal system, CII 75 mcg
per hour patches. The recall is due to a potential medication leak that could
lead to a fatal drug overdose.
A Duragesic CII patch is available only by prescription. The patch is used
to treat moderate to severe pain by releasing a strong pain medication - fentanyl
- into the body through the skin. Delivered in this manner, fentanyl can relieve
pain for up to 3 days.
The leak of fentanyl can cause symptoms such as nausea, vomiting, constipation,
drowsiness, weakness, and dry mouth. Leakage may also lead to inadequate dosing
resulting in lack of treatment or withdrawal symptoms. Serious injuries include
death, coma, and cardiac arrest.
The recalled Duragesic lots have the following control numbers:
- 0327192
- 0327193
- 0327294
- 0327295
- 0330362
